How to Manage Redirects

← Return Read on ↓

Redirects ensure visitors and search engines are routed to the correct pages, even when URLs change. In our platform, you can create redirects individually, redirect to external websites, and easily edit or delete existing redirects.

Where to Find Redirects

  • Click CMS on the main navigation.
  • In the left menu, go to SEO & Redirects.
  • This will open the Redirects Manager, where you can view, add, edit and upload redirects.

Adding Redirects

If you only need to add or update a few redirects, you can do so directly in the interface.

Step 1: Click the + Redirect button at the top.

Step 2: Enter the following fields:

  • Source Domain URL (optional)
  • Source Relative URL (the path you want to redirect from). For example: /your-old-page-url
  • Target Domain URL (optional)
  • Target Relative URL (the path you want to redirect to). . For example:. /your-new-page-url
  • If the redirect should be permanent, set Is Permanent to TRUE. For temporary redirects, set to FALSE.

Step 3: Save your redirect.

Redirects When Using Branches

If your website uses Branches, redirects must be configured slightly differently.

Because Branches operate at the domain level, you must include the Source Domain URL when creating redirects for Branch-based sites.

Important Notes for Branch Redirects

  • The Source Domain URL is required.

  • In most cases, the Source Domain URL and Target Domain URL will be the same, as you are redirecting within the same Branch domain.

  • This ensures the redirect applies correctly across the Branch.

Example: Domain-Level Redirect Using Branches

  • Source Domain URL: https://www.yourbranch.org

  • Source Relative URL: /old-branch-page

  • Target Domain URL: https://www.yourbranch.org

  • Target Relative URL: /new-branch-page

  • Is Permanent: TRUE (for a long-term change)

This setup ensures visitors and search engines are redirected correctly within the Branch-enabled domain.

Redirecting to an External Website

If you want to redirect a page to another website entirely, you can do this by using the Target Domain URL field.

  • You have the option to leave your Source Domain URL empty if you wish.
  • In Source Relative URL, enter the path from your site. e.g. /your-old-event-url
  • In Target Domain URL, enter the full external domain including https://.
    For example: https://www.eventbrite.com
  • Leave the Target Relative URL empty unless the external URL has a specific path.
    For example: /school-gala-tickets
  • Mark Is Permanent as TRUE if it’s a long-term redirect.

Result: Anyone clicking on the link /your-old-event-url will be sent directly to the external website.

Editing an Existing Redirect

If you need to make changes to a redirect, you can do so directly in the redirect table.

  • Find the redirect you want to edit.
  • Click the pencil/edit icon to the left of the redirect row.
  • Update any field (source, target, or permanence).
  • Save your changes.

This is useful for fixing typos, updating URLs, or switching a redirect from temporary to permanent.

Deleting a Redirect

If a redirect is no longer needed:

  • Click the header to sort the redirects and locate the redirect you want to remove
  • Click the trash/bin icon.
  • Confirm the deletion.

The redirect will be permanently removed from the system.

Use this when URLs are reinstated, replaced, or no longer require redirection.

Permanent or Temporary Redirects

Each redirect includes an Is Permanent field, which determines how browsers and search engines treat it. Below will guide you on when to set this field to TRUE or FALSE.

TRUE (Permanent Redirect – 301)

Use this when:

  • A page has moved forever
  • You are retiring content
  • You want search engines to replace the old URL with the new one

A permanent redirect tells Google and other search engines to transfer SEO value to the new page.

FALSE (Temporary Redirect – 302)

Use this when:

  • A redirect is short-term
  • Pages will return later
  • You’re running a campaign or event with a temporary landing page

A temporary redirect keeps the original URL in search results and does not transfer SEO value permanently.
